Mr. Monday Morning: Week 10
Vince Bavaro
11/16/09

Boss of the Week: Chris Johnson- 26 Att, 132 Yds, 2 TD, 9 Rec, 100 Yds

Wowzers!  This week Silky Johnson impressively put up numbers reminiscent of Marshall Faulk in his prime.  Johnson has now run for over 100 yards in four straight games and is the league’s first 1000-yard rusher this season.  He’s on pace for 1940 rushing yards, 53 receptions, 466 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns.  The kid is nice.

Weakest of the Week: Jay Cutler- 307 Yds, 5 INT

Cutler is an inconsistent bozo with bad body language, but that’s nothing new.  Come on bro!

Marshall field day

Brandon Marshall had his best game of the year, catching five balls for 134 yards and two touchdowns against the No. 1 pass defense, Washington Redskins.  He scored on 40 and 72-yarders.  It was nice to see Kyle Orton hit Marshall deep.  Too bad he injured his ankle in the first half and did not return.  Orton’s status for next week is uncertain.

Ripley’s believe it or not?  LT hulks up

LaDanian Tomlinson also had his best game of the year, rushing for 96 yards and two touchdowns Sunday against Philly.  The Chargers won and Retro-LT moved to third all-time in touchdowns behind Emmitt Smith (175) and Jerry Rice (208).  His value is at a season-high so for those of you who own him, I’d try to sell him before the fantasy trade deadline if at all possible.

Hello Sidney

Sidney Rice is a sicko.  The kid had seven catches for 201 yards, good for 28.7 yards per catch.  His 786 yards on the season ranks third in the league and Brett Favre loves him.  Hopefully Brett can hit him for more touchdowns as Rice only has two on the year.  Looks like Rice’s offseason training I mentioned in my deep sleeper article is paying off.

Also see that sleeper article for more info on Justin Forsett, who hulked up today after Julius Jones got hurt.  Pick up Forsett!

Rams looking good

Steven Jackson and the Rams had another encouraging performance this week, putting up 23 points and some nice fantasy numbers versus the Saints:

Steven Jackson- 26 Att, 131 Yds, TD, 9 Rec, 45 Yds
Marc Bulger- 298 Yds, 2 TD, INT
Donnie Avery- 4 Rec, 67 Rec, 2 TD

New Orleans won the game 28-23, but the Rams have been mighty competitive in their past couple games, which bodes well for S. Jax and Avery going forward.  If Avery is on your waiver wire, I would scoop him for sure.

Week of Attrition

A bunch of major players went down with injuries this week, including Ronnie Brown (ankle), Michael Turner (ankle), Julius Jones (rib), Cedric Benson (hip), Brian Westbrook (concussion), and Kyle Orton (ankle).  Stay tuned.

Week 10 Observations/Thoughts

Nice to see Matt Forte hulk up in the receiving game (8 Rec, 120 Yds), because he continues to do nothing in the running game (20 Att, 41 Yds).

I told you to stick with Steve Smith because he’s too talented to suck much longer, and Sunday he delivered two touchdowns in Carolina’s victory over ATL.

Jonathan Stewart has been coming on strong lately, scoring six touchdowns in his last six games, including two on Sunday.  In the preseason, we projected he finishes with 11 total TDs and he’s currently on that exact pace.

Maurice Jones-Drew could have scored one more TD, except he took a knee at the 1-yard line with less than two minutes left to seal a win for the Jags.  The play was reminiscent of Brian Westbrook’s infamous knee slide late in 2007.  In true hulk fashion, apologized to his fantasy owners in a post-game interview.

Where in the world has Santonio Holmes disappeared to?  He hasn’t scored a touchdown since his big game on opening night.  Everyone, including me, thought that performance reinforced the notion of a breakout season.

Lee Evans is the only Buffalo Bill who has a pulse.  Despite only 381 yards this season, Evans quietly has five touchdowns, including two Sunday.  Obviously, he’s difficult to start in fantasy but he’s a decent reserve option.

Michael Bush (14 Att, 119 Yds) is worth a free agent pickup again to see what happens down the stretch.  He outcarried and outgained both Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden Sunday against Kansas City.  I still believe Bush has what it takes to be a legit NFL RB.  The only problem is that his team bites.

As long as Beanie Wells receives consistent carries, he can be a serious fantasy factor down the stretch.  He has potential for second half magic and is worth trading for.  Same goes for Knowshon Moreno.

Marion Barber and the Dallas running game have been worthless lately.  Dallas needs to make some sort of adjustment to get it churning.

Brian Westbrook and LeSean McCoy combined for only 9 carries in a runner-friendly matchup against San Diego!  Disappointing to say the least.  I started McCoy as a flex in a couple leagues.

Sunday Night Football One Liner Patriots at Colts

Tom Brady to Randy Moss and Peyton Manning to Reggie Wayne are connections destined by the fantasy gods.
