Boss of the Week: Chris Johnson- 24 Att, 228 Yds, 2 TD, 2 Rec, 11 Yds
Silky Johnson went psycho hulk on Jacksonville Sunday, leading Tennessee to their first victory of the season. His 228 yards, which included speedy TD runs of 52 and 89 yards, vaulted him to No. 1 in the league in rushing yards (824). All I have to say is WOW. Johnson and DeSean Jackson are my favorite speed demons in the league and Sunday was Silky's day.
Weakest of the Week: Steve Slaton- 1 Att, 1 Yd, 2 Rec, 10 Yds
Slaton, our No. 1 ranked running back this week, was benched after losing an unforced fumble on his third touch of the game versus Buffalo. Backup RB Ryan Moats entered the game and put up numbers Slaton would have in this juicy matchup, causing Slaton owners everywhere to yack up their lunch. Moats finished with an impressive 126 yards and three TDs.
We don’t buy Moats as a long-term fantasy force this year, but we are concerned about Slaton’s fumbling issue at the same time, so Moats is worth a pick-up. Make no mistake though, Slaton is still Houston's guy and Moats did his damage against a pathetic Bills run defense. However, my concern is that Slaton’s fumble-itis may require an offseason of work, as opposed to an in-season quick fix. Slaton and/or the Texans should pick up the phone and call Tiki Barber for help right about now.
The Incredible Hulk
Our favorite fantasy hulk, Maurice Jones-Drew, blew Tennessee’s doors off to the tune of 177 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries! MJD went blow for blow with Chris Johnson, scoring on explosive runs of 80 and 79 yards. Jones-Drew is on pace for 21 touchdowns, which is no surprise to us.
S. Jax Wild
Hallelujah! Steven Jackson scored his first touchdown and the Rams won their first game of the year Sunday against Detroit. S. Jax’s 784 rushing yards ranks second in the league, as the half alien/half machine is in top form. Now the Rams go into their bye week flying high and Jackson (165 carries) can get some rest. Heading into the second half of the fantasy season, this is the best we’ve felt about S. Jax and the Rams from a fanta standpoint all year.
Sell High on Forte?
As Chicago dwellers, we’ve watched a lot of Matt Forte this season and he simply does not have the explosiveness he had last year. He’s shown the ability to tear up cupcake teams like Detroit and Cleveland but nothing more. After a nice game versus the Browns this week – 121 total yards, 2 TD – now would be a great time to sell high if you so desire. Personally, I would trade Forte and his 3.5 YPC straight up for Ronnie Brown, Frank Gore, Marion Barber, Cedric Benson, Brandon Jacobs to name a bunch.
Random Observations/Thoughts
Ray Rice is this year’s DeAngelo Williams value pick. He’s the biggest hulk that was picked in rounds five through seven on average, just like Williams last year. Rice is righteous.
Derek Anderson= Garbage
We’re worried about Marshawn Lynch. He was projected be a surefire RB2 this year after his return from suspension, but he hasn’t been anything more than a RB3 so far. He has the talent to hulk up, but the Bills offense is holding him back, plus Fred Jackson is still around. So, we shall see…
The Cowboys offense is in sync now, thanks to Miles Austin’s emergence and healthy running backs. Tony Romo has eight TDs versus zero interceptions during their current three-game win streak. Their defense has also been beastly.
Julius Jones has been worthless lately after a hulky start to the season. He did the same thing last year too.
The Vikings and Eagles offenses are similarly built with explosive skill players. Sunday, Brett Favre threw four TDs in his Green Bay homecoming and Donovan McNabb threw three TDs versus NYG.
I heart Vincent Jackson.
I heart Reggie Wayne more. I told you a bounce-back season was a guarantee.
Dallas Clark is top-5 in the NFL in receiving yards. Whoa. Peyton Manning hearts him.
Joey Addai’s yards per carry numbers continue to be ugly. He carried 20 times for 62 yards against San Fran Sunday (3.1 YPC). I expected more, including a TD, with Donald Brown out (shoulder).
The Panthers are a competitive team when they run the ball well. DeAngelo Williams ran for 158 yards on 23 carries and Jonathan Stewart ran for 87 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns in their victory over Arizona.
Steve Smith (CAR) scored his first touchdown of the season Sunday. I would not sell Smith. Keep the faith in last year’s receiving yardage leader (per game).
The Cardinals had six turnovers, all committed by Kurt Warner. He tied a career-high with five interceptions and also lost a fumble.
Greg Jennings had his best game since Week 1. He put up 8/88/1 vs. Minnesota. Damn, I was hoping for another down game this week so I could buy low. Still though, his value isn’t sky-high so it’s possible that he could be had for a good price.
Dominik Hixon’s breakout potential has disappeared.
Dustin Keller was Mark Sanchez’s favorite target Sunday against Miami. He finished with eight catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. This is what I expected between these two heading into the season. Their connection looked good this week. |
