Quarterbacks
Vince Young- Wow, it isn’t often that a possible QB1 is out on waivers this late in the season, but Young is playing at that type of level right now and both the Titans and Young have super swagger going on right now, so the onslaught by Young can continue. Vince Young must be owned in all leagues
Matt Leinart- It looks like Leinart will get another start as of right now. The matchup he will face is the Vikings who are a slightly above average pass defense. You can expect a lot of attempts out of Leinart in this game which probably means a couple picks and a couple TDs with 225-275 yards. Not a bad game. This is a short-term option because I’m sure by Week 14 Kurt Warner will be ready to go and will be starting.
Alex Smith- If you want to grab a longer term option, Alex Smith is a better move than Leinart. Last week against Jacksonville, Smith attempted 41 passes without an interception and threw for two touchdowns, both coming in the first half alone. There are just too many weapons for Smith to use in this offense and it appears Singletary is getting comfortable throwing the ball more than running it if that is what it takes to win.
Josh Freeman- Another viable long term option is Freeman. He has been a borderline QB1 over the past three weeks and this can certainly continue as long as the Bucs running game remains stagnant.
Running Backs
Fred Jackson- Get back on board folks! Jackson is sure to see the majority of the Bills workload the rest of the season after putting together a 116 total yard, two TD effort against a tough Miami defense. Lynch was unable to get virtually anything done as the starter. I think you can probably look for Jackson to put up the type of numbers he was getting through the first three weeks of the season which was at least 100 yards from scrimmage a game.
Jerious Norwood- Looked dynamic and healthy last week after Turner re-injured his ankle. Turner is most likely going to miss next week’s game against the Eagles and it wouldn’t surprise me if Norwood gets more touches than Snelling in that game.
Lex Hilliard- Should be owned because he would produce tremendously if Ricky Williams were to miss any time. I think this is a more valuable roster spot than a Chris Brown or Darren McFadden at this point because it is not certain that these backs would do well if their team’s starting running backs went down and they provide minimal value as present, minority-touch backs. (Although McFadden is worth a look for his Week 16 game vs Cleveland.)
Rashad Jennings- See above
Wide Receivers
Nate Washington- If I had to take one of the two starting Titans WRs right now, I’d take Washington. Kenny Britt’s breakout game is better for Washington because it has captured the attention of opposing defenses so coverage should loosen a bit for Nate Wash, who has been the steady hand all season amongst Titan pass catchers.
Kenny Britt- Was Vince Young’s go-to WR in last week’s win over Arizona. If Nate Washington is gone, go right after Britt because both receivers can get their taste in this newly established ,top-tier offense that everyone is itching to get a piece of.
Antonio Bryant- I said last week that Bryant has the most upside of all the receivers left on waivers. That could still be true but he is not as readily available this time around after producing 91 yards last week. Freeman hooked up with Bryant on a 40-yard TD and this type of deep connection can continue with Freeman’s big arm and Bryant’s knack for getting open downfield. The Bucs face Carolina next week, who has a brilliant secondary, so chill on both Freeman and Bryant until Week 14.
Tight Ends
Zach Miller- Looks great with Gradkowski at the helm. He is one of the most talented TEs in the league but is on the worst team in the league. He’s been producing quietly and that should continue as long as Graddy stays at the quarterback position.
JerMichael Finley- Always a threat to put up huge numbers. As a high-ceiling weekly player, he has a pretty high floor too, of about four catches and 50 yards. |
